Compostable zipper bags are a great alternative to the standard LDPE clear zip-lock storage bags and are comparable in strength to our 2Mil bags. Due to the makeup of the bags, our compostable ziplock bags are cloudier than standard LDPE and are not completely see-through. They have an ivory color in look, and the product can be seen through the bag’s exterior. The convenient zipper closure secures any contents inside the bag and will keep them fresh. These ziplock bags are completely compostable and food safe.
Compostable bags can be custom ordered for size and print. Due to the nature of the bags’ compostable materials, the available printing types for these bags is limited.
Compostable bags are a much more environmentally friendly option than normal plastic bags because of their ability to break down quickly.
Regular plastic bags are usually made from polyethylene (PE). Unfortunately, PE can take decades to break down and biodegrade. Even when these plastic bags do break down, they pollute the surrounding soil with the chemicals used to hold the plastic together. Additionally, many plastic bags end up in the ocean and damage marine ecosystems.
Unlike normal plastic bags, compostable bags break down into compost as time goes on. This means that the compostable bags will turn into high-quality fertilizer and add nutrients to the soil. Due to this, compostable bags are a positive move for the environment twice over because their use means that a local environment is receiving necessary nutrients, and the chemicals from plastic bags aren’t being introduced into the ecosystem’s soil.
The Compostable Film is certified to break down according to ASTM D6400 standards. It will decompose within 90 days under compostable conditions.
It’s best to store the bags in an area or facility that’s dry. Also, the temperature should not exceed 60 Fahrenheit. Keep the ziplock away from water, soil, and sunshine so the bags don’t begin decomposing prior to use.
There’s a number of ways for you to properly dispose of your compost bags. If your city offers industrial composting, you can normally put out your compost trash the same way you’d take your recycling bin to the curb. If your city doesn’t have that option available, an outdoor composting bin works well. The temperature in the bin usually sits above 60 degrees as long as it’s at least 45 degrees outside. Lastly, you can compost inside your home with a special kind of composting bin.
To receive the highest quality from our compostable ziplock bags, the shelf life is 12 months.
Please be aware when using compostable bags with hot machinery that the biodegradable material is temperature sensitive. Each user of the material should make their own tests to determine the specific product's suitability for their particular application. Users must make their own determination of its safety, lawfulness, and technical suitability in its intended application.
